Today’s session

Every day, Aaronsan builds a session that fits your chosen time: due reviews first, then new cards, and sometimes a writing, shadowing or listening step.

  1. Tap “Start session” on the dashboard or the Learn page.
  2. Follow the steps one by one.
  3. If you stop, “Resume session” picks up where you left off.

Picking a deck yourself

The Learn page lists every deck, with search and filters.

  1. Type in the search field, then press Enter or the button.
  2. Open “Filters”: level, content, format, access, difficulty from 1 to 5, progress.
  3. Sort by path, by mastery, by difficulty or at random.
  • Each deck card shows reviews due, mastery and difficulty.
  • “Done by friends” keeps only the decks your friends have finished.

Question formats

Each deck uses one format.

  • Multiple choice: one right answer out of 4.
  • Write answer: type the reading, the meaning or the kanji.
  • Audio choice: listen, then pick the right meaning, character or sentence.
  • Speak answer: say the word into the microphone and get a score.
  • Shadowing and passive listening: separate players, covered in the Practice chapter.

Answering a card

  1. Pick or type your answer, then tap “Check”.
  2. Right: “Nice!”. Wrong: the correct answer appears.
  3. Read the example and the memory tip, then tap “Continue”.

On the webOn a computer keyboard: Enter checks, keys 1 to 4 pick an answer and Space starts or stops voice recording.

Energy

An energy gauge protects your memory from fatigue.

  • Every session starts with 5 energy.
  • Right answer: +1, up to 5. Wrong answer: −1.
  • At 0 you have two choices: take a break (your answers are already saved) or continue for 1 onigiri, which brings energy back to 3.
  • With no onigiri left, lessons pause for 6 hours. Writing, finished decks and friends stay open.

On fire!

Runs of correct answers show up on screen.

  • 7 right answers in a row in a session earn 1 flame, then one more every 7.
  • A single mistake resets the run.
  • Flames move some quests and achievements forward.

When a card comes back

Aaronsan uses spaced repetition: each card comes back just before you would forget it.

  • No need to rate cards: the app does it for you.
  • Wrong: the card comes back soon.
  • Right: the gap grows. A right but slow answer on a card you have reviewed before grows it a little less (over 12 s for multiple choice, 15 s for audio choice, 30 s for written answers).
  • A card is stable when its next review is 21 days or more away.

New cards each day

The number of new cards follows your daily time.

  • 10 min: 8 new cards. 15 min: 12. 20 min: 16. 30 min: 24.
  • Once the quota is used, the next ones arrive tomorrow. Reviews carry on.
  • “One more lesson?”: trade 1 onigiri for an extra day’s worth of new cards, once a day.

Quit, resume, start over

  • Answers are saved card by card.
  • “Quit” offers “Resume later” or “Abandon”.
  • Unfinished sessions stay on the Learn page, under “Current session”.
  • “Reset deck” erases all progress on that deck. It cannot be undone.

End of deck and rewards

“Mission complete”: the end screen shows accuracy, pace and what you earned.

  • Session of at least 5 cards: 10 EXP, plus 1 EXP per right answer, plus 5 EXP with no mistakes.
  • Fewer than 5 cards: 1 EXP per right answer.
  • Finished deck (5 cards or more): +1 onigiri, once per deck per day.

Session settings

In Settings under “Session settings”, or from the card during a session. Changes save instantly.

  • “Effects”: sound and visual effects. Audio and voice are not affected.
  • For speaking decks, a microphone check appears before you start.

On the webOn the website, three more settings: “Timer”, “Keyboard shortcuts” and “Settings before each deck”.

In the appIn the app, only “Effects” is offered, with light haptics when you tap.
