Chapter 5

Mock exams

Sit an exam in real conditions and understand your score.

Choosing an exam

A mock exam follows the JLPT format and gives a practice score out of 180.

  1. Open “Mock exam”.
  2. Pick a level: each shows its pass mark, your best score and number of attempts.
  3. Read the duration and the pass mark, then tap “Start now”.
  • An exam that needs Premium shows a lock.
  • If a level has fewer questions than the real exam, this is shown before you start.

During the exam

  • The timer starts right away, and each section has its own time.
  • Moving to the next section is final.
  • For each question, pick the best answer from 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • In listening, each recording plays only once, like on exam day.
  • “Finish and score” gives the result. Quitting midway ends the attempt.

Passing: total and minimums

You need the pass mark and the minimum in every section.

  • One section below its minimum means a fail, even with a good total.
  • At N5 and N4, language and reading form a single section.

After the exam

  • The result says “Passed” or “Not passed”, with each section’s score and the section to work on.
  • “Sit it again” or “Review this level” to carry on.
  • Recent attempts stay in your history, with the section breakdown.
